NYX Cosmetics Store Opening

Good morning!

So a few weeks ago I went and checked out our brand new NYX store inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. They had a huge store opening with meet and greets with famous artists, giveaways, and makeovers.

I was just there to shop but I snapped a couple photos because a) the store is all kinds of awesome and b) the opening looked like a lot of fun!

Pretty by Rory- Forever 21's Bridesmaids Collection

When I found out that Forever 21 was going to be selling bridesmaids dresses, I wasn't sure what to expect. Having worked in the bridal industry for like three years, I was kind of conflicted. Since I got the invite and our big Las Vegas store was having a preview, I decided to check them out.

They actually put together a fun event with hair stylists from one of the local salons and all kinds of freebies with purchase (goodies from Sugar Factory and cosmetics).

The set-up was cute and very springy. The dresses all came in pastels, a couple spring prints, and black. The style and color reminded me of Plum Pretty Sugar.

I have to say, I was really pleasantly surprised with these dresses. First- they're all long but all flowy. They've got great movement and the fabric feels nice- no harsh tafetta or silk (I hate how easily it stains). They all hung nicely but they seem to run long so even these fairly inexpensive dresses will cost you a little extra for alterations (hemming is usually a fairly inexpensive fix). With these dresses, it seems like the main concern is the fit of the bodice which should be snug but comfortable. The dresses ran true to size (I tried one on for fun) and almost a little bit big. The fabric and lining all felt really nice on the skin too.

The best part? My favorite one was only $68.
And unlike most bridesmaids dresses, you actually can wear these again!

Style on a Budget in Downtown Summerlin

Despite how it looks on Instagram, I don't go out much. Most days I sleep a lot (my chronic conditions make it really hard to move let alone get out of bed sometimes) and spend a lot of time talking to my dog.

When I got an invite to a boutique pre-opening in a Downtown Summerlin by my Style Collective sister, Tessa from Tessa Tailored, I almost didn't go. I am so glad I did!

The Joeleene boutique is adorable for starters. Lots of open space and clean colors. The displays that sit over nicely polished rocks reminds me of the spa tub I had in Bali. All the displays are really neat and organized in cohesive spaces and designs.

The major draw for me- the price point. One of the store's managers had described the prices as "approachable" and I really think that was a good word for it. The most expensive item I personally saw was about $100 and the highest price tag on an item I drooled over was about $65. Very doable for almost any budget!

The event was a lot of fun and I got to meet some of the other bloggers in town that I'd only spoken to on Instagram and email. There was a bar set up at the front with cocktails and one of the local juice companies had a great setup in the back. There was a DJ keeping the atmosphere fun and lively and a fashion show that had me drooling over pieces I hadn't even seen yet.

I only let myself buy one thing (I tried to exercise some willpower) and it's a fun and versatile piece I know I'll wear all summer long. While it's easy to find cheaper versions of the same pieces, you can't beat good quality and the items I saw were definitely worth the price tag and more. Joeleene also has an online boutique and the selection is even better than the store. Go check it out

eBay Guide For Beginners

A little known fact- I buy most of my stuff on eBay.

Most people think it's a place to get used items or vintage pieces or just bid on auctions; however, it's actually a great place to find inexpensive clothes, beauty products, and accessories. A lot of sellers have surplus of items they don't want/can't use or some sellers even have pieces that they never used or received as gifts. I once bought a pair of designer sandals that were worn once- the seller had been hiding her shoe collection from her husband and he found it and made her sell them!

While eBay can be a great place to find some choice deals, it's also a bit difficult to figure certain things out. I've been buying (and periodically selling) on the site for over a decade, so today I'm going to share a few tips!

Look at the photos carefully- one mistake I hear a lot of is people not checking the photos. I don't mean the stock photo of an item, the actual photos of the item that is for sale. If there aren't any, request some. If it's a used item or a defected item, there should be actual photos. If there aren't, the seller might be fishy. A good seller wants to make sure you know exactly what you are getting.

Read the description carefully- in one of my law classes at UNLV, my professor described a case involving someone who spent thousands of dollars purchasing a big ticket item only to receive a photo of the item. Apparently they hadn't read the description properly and the piece for sale was the photo not the big ticket item. If you're buying something expensive, read carefully to make sure you are getting exactly what you expect.

When purchasing designer items, exercise caution- you can always request a copy of the receipt from the original purchase but know that this may not be available. If the item should have a serial number, there should be a photo of it and if there is not, request one. I tend to gravitate towards the gently used designer items instead of anything claiming to be new and authentic because I typically get a weird vibe. I'm not saying they don't exist but be careful.

Don't take any crap- utilize the eBay communications channels. Currently, I'm having issues with a couple sellers that have been going on for MONTHS. One seller promised me a refund for items I never received even though they supposedly sent them twice. The other seller sent me a pair of socks in two different sizes rendering the pair completely unwearable. Keep in mind- eBay will pretty much only help you within 30 days of the latest estimated arrival date; however, you can open disputes with Paypal within 180 days.

Beware of dates- if a seller is out of office, typically there will be a notation at the top of the listing saying the dates they are out of office. One big thing- if you are buying products from Asia, not the dates for Chinese New Year. A lot of sellers will not be working their stores during those 15 days (or possibly longer) so get your orders in well before or after the festivals.

Check scores- feedback scores can be very telling. Additionally, check when the negative reviews were made. If nothing negative has been made within the last 6-12 months, I'll usually ignore it. Often this is a good place to find out if other buyers have received counterfeit items in which case, move along.

Shop around- If you're looking at say, a set of Living Proof shampoos (they're listed in every size), shop around for a bit. Often you can shave a few dollars off your purchase by doing so because there's almost always multiple sellers. This is also a great time to compare the prices and ratings from sellers- a great price and a poor rating should cancel itself out.

Ask about discounts- if you're buying multiple items, it may knock down the price of the shipping if the seller knows you're buying multiples. Don't be afraid to ask!

I hope this helped make it easier to navigate eBay!
I'll be sharing a list of my favorite things to purchase soon!

Monday Must Haves

Hey guys!

So today is short and to the point- Is it just me or does this shoe look just like the Steve Madden Carrson shoe??? I know the Steve Maddens are actually fairly inexpensive but when your shoe habit runs as deeply as mine, it helps to save wherever you can!

Also, this shoe comes in a wide width version. Yay!

Monday Must Haves

Hello all!

So it's almost spring and I've honestly been craving a beach getaway for months. I have a few great Lily Pullitzer pieces sitting in my closet that I cannot wait to wear somewhere warm and beachy (I got them both for under $50 total at one of the big sales). They're both in this tropical blue color that I absolutely adore. I've been on the hunt for some inexpensive accessories to compliment the ensemble and have found some great pieces!

These sandals I managed to find super cheap in the same color of the tops. They're City Classified and seriously, they look so much like the Jack Rogers sandals I want that it physically hurts. They're also under $30! Such a great deal! I got them in the mail a couple weeks ago and they are virtually identical!

I really wanted something cute and straw that wasn't a tote (I don't love the practicality of straw at the beach since it's far from waterproof) so I decided on a crossbody. It's functional, works for wandering the boardwalks and beach shops during the day and for dinner and drinks at night. This bag on eBags was kind of a steal considering eBags always has some amazing sales! Also, this adorable pom pom and tassel bag charm is the shade of blue I want and only a couple of dollars! I think it really finishes off the look!

Anyhow, what beach is everyone else dreaming about?

Monday Must Haves

I will say this a million times- this year is flying by!

Since it's warming up, Vegas pool season is like literally almost here. Good swimwear comes in all kinds of price points and I own plenty of cheaper varieties but sometimes a good quality suit goes a really long way. So many designers have gorgeous suits that are crazy expensive (like over $200) but when you do some good sleuthing, you can find a great deal. I've rounded up some of my favorite designer swimsuits and cover-ups that are under $100!
