Atlanta Day 1- Chicken and waffles, Braves, Weezer

I'm home from Atlanta and what a fun time!
So awesome in fact, that I already booked my next trip back home.

After one of the worst redeye flights I've EVER been on, we made it to Atlanta at about 6:30AM. We dropped our luggage off at the hotel first and then headed straight for Sublime Doughnuts. I'd never used MARTA much when I lived here but when playing tourist, it is a Godsend. It got us everywhere. And it was cheeeeeap. So cheap. Plus, our hotel connected to Peachtree Center with the MARTA station right downstairs so it was also really convenient.

Sublime Doughnuts was adorable and the doughnuts were amazing. It was funny, Lara and I ordered ice cream coffees and the staff bent the rules for us even though they don't usually serve the ice cream until after 10AM (we laughed because in Vegas, you can get hard liquor 24/7). We must really have looked like corpses. We got four different pieces and split them all. Unfortunately I was facing the screen with flashing flavours and kept wanting to get more. Next time. I will do it next time.

Our next stop was Piedmont Park. I know some of the best Atlanta skyline photos are shot from here and I'd never walked through so we thought it would be a chill way to spend the morning in between meals. No wonder people like it so much, the park is just gorgeous.

After walking off the doughnuts, we headed to Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles. OMG. Considering the best we have in Vegas is driving four hours to Roscoe's in a crappy part of LA, this was a dream come true. We got the fried green tomatoes (so weird that I'd never tried them before) and split an order of the chicken and waffles. Everything was delicious.

From here we made our way over to Turner Field for our tour. Apparently there was nobody else booked for our tour so we ended up with a private walking tour of the stadium! Even better, Weezer was doing their soundcheck so we got to watch from various parts of the seats and the field.

We checked into the hotel with plenty of time to change and relax a bit before the game. We were super excited about the game food. We got steak sandwiches at Kevin Rathbun and ice cream at Mayfield. Our tickets were $40 and included the game, the show, and a T-shirt. While the Braves lost and the Weezer concert wasn't well organized by Turner Field, we still had a really awesome time! Great first day in Atlanta.
